Beautiful grounds
Grittenham's uniqueness is it's sense of history combined with its beautiful grounds and stunning views across the fields to the South Downs.
Grittenham has been in the Mitford family for many years but its history goes back at least as far as the domesday book. The Barn is 17th Century and set in the grounds of a lovingly restored and magical house which won an award in 2004 from the Sussex Heritage Trust for its restoration work.
The grounds are yours for the day and there are many beautiful and secluded areas for drinks, photography or merely sitting and soaking up the atmosphere.
There's an orchard with the occasional sheep grazing, a lake, flower gardens full of traditional and beautiful smelling roses and other native flowers and there are even a couple of donkeys - a firm favourite with our guests.
The view of the South Downs is with you wherever you wander!
